Cyrus Quotes

The main antagonist of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl and Pokemon Platinum. His motives have been debated. I'm collecting here a corpus of his quotes, interactions he has with other characters, and what other characters say about him.

Texts sourced from Bulbapedia. Where not present on Bulbapedia, I looked on YouTube and GameFAQs.

Diamond/Pearl

Cyrus has much less dialogue in D/P than he does in Platinum, appears differently, and his motivations seem slightly different. Quotes taken from Bulbapedia.

Mt. Coronet

Cyrus: "According to one theory, Mt. Coronet is where the Sinnoh region began. In a newly created world... A world where only time flowed and space expanded.. There should have been no strife. But what became of that world? Because the human spirit is weak and incomplete, strife has appeared... This world is being ruined by it... I find the state of things to be deplorable..."

Eterna City

Cyrus: There appears to have been an insignificant struggle here. Everyone should step back and view things from a bigger perspective. Yes, a bigger perspective — one that is on a universal scale. My name is Cyrus. I seek the power to create a new world — a world without strife. However... That power seems to be unavailable here. We’ve met before, yes? It was at Mount Coronet. If you discover any power derived from the legends of Sinnoh, inform me. For that power is what I need to create my new world.

Team Galactic HQ

Before battle

Cyrus: "...I see. You must be the Trainer I've been hearing about. The foolhardy one that's trying to stand up to Team Galactic. Although I'd hardly expected to see that the Trainer is a mere child. I'd heard that our Commanders had a rough time with you..."

Cyrus: "I know why you're here, I can sense it in you. It's about Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf, correct? You want to save them... I no longer have any need for them. I am finished with them. If your heart aches to save them, go right ahead, I could care less. It will save me the trouble of disposing of them. But I must say... You are a remarkable specimen. Those Pokémon have nothing to do with you, do they not? But still you came to rescue them out of pity? Such pitifully useless emotions... It's illogical and irrational. Pity and compassion are products of the weak and lacking human heart. You were compelled to come here by vacuous sentimentality! I will make you regret paying heed to your heart!"

After sending out last Pokémon

Cyrus: "My last Pokémon."

During battle (last Pokémon with less than half HP)

Cyrus: "I see... I may lose if this pace continues..."

Being defeated

Cyrus: "Interesting. And quite curious."

After being defeated

Cyrus: "I see. You are indeed strong. And the basis of your power is your compassion toward Pokémon. ...How wasteful... Such emotions are but mere illusions. And, like all illusions, they fade over time until death banishes them forever. That is why I have abandoned all emotions as useless sentimentality. ...But that doesn't matter. I doubt you will ever understand my position. That said, I recognize that you are strong and courageous to come alone. This is your reward."

Cyrus: "The Master Ball is the ultimate Poké Ball. It will unfailingly catch any Pokémon in the wild. But it is not anything that I require. Unlike you Trainers, I do not make Pokémon my friends or partners. Unlike other Team Galactic members, I don't use Pokémon as tools. Instead, I make the power of Pokémon my own. If you wish to save the Pokémon from the lakes, take the warp panel ahead. I am off to Mt. Coronet. That's correct. Mt. Coronet. Where you and I first met. I will ascend the mountain to its peak and put an end to everything... No. I will bring about a new beginning for everything..."

Spear Pillar

Cyrus: "Now all will end. And everything will begin. With this Red Chain I will pry open the portal to another dimension. I command that you unleash all your power for me... DialgaD/PalkiaP the mythical Pokémon and the master of timeD/space and dimensionsP! This will bring about the destruction of all things. With everything gone, there will be no fighting and no strife. Can you feel time distorting? Only I can choose to stop itD/Feel the dimensions distorting... Only I can stop itP. This is the mythical Pokémon that created Sinnoh! DialgaD/PalkiaP the ancient deity of timeD/space and dimensionsP! This world cannot be molded into the ultimate world I seek! It's far easier to create an entirely new world than to change this one! A new world in which I am the ruler of all things! I shall become a deity!"

Cyrus: "Oh! Dialga (D)/ Palkia (P)... This is... Fantastic! Beautiful! It's the creating of a new galaxy! My new world! ... Wh-what?!"

Before battle

Cyrus: "The Red Chain! It crumbled away to nothing?! But why? Why would Mesprit, the Pokémon of Lake Verity, appear by your side? But never mind that! It's all destroyed! My galaxy is gone! I won't allow this... I will capture those three again and craft another Red Chain! But before I even think about that, I'm going to completely crush you!"

After sending out last Pokémon

Cyrus: "I admit that you have pushed me to this extreme."

During battle (last Pokémon with less than half HP)

Cyrus: "This... this cannot be! It's not possible that I lose!"

Being defeated

Cyrus: "I won't accept this! The power spoken of in mythology... I didn't just make it obey me, I made it my own!"

After being defeated

Cyrus: "What is truly ultimate to you? What do you consider perfection? The most important thing... What shines the brightest... Telling you is meaningless. But I will not give up. I will become a deity one day... And I will make the ultimate mine..."

Platinum

His dialogue is much expanded here.

Lake Verity (Mesprit’s Lake)

Cyrus: "...The flowing time... The expanding space... I will make it all mine one day... Cyrus is my name. Remember it... Until then, sleep while you can, legendary Pokémon of the lake bed...." "Allow me to pass. Step aside."

Eterna City

Cyrus: "...So, this is Eterna's Pokémon statue... Shaping our world are time and space in an intertwining spiral. Revered in Sinnoh are the Pokémon of time and space... Sinnoh's myth... Its truth needs investigation..."

Cyrus: "...Pardon me. Stand aside."

Cyrus: "..."

Mt. Coronet

Cyrus: "According to one theory, Mt. Coronet is where the Sinnoh region began. In a newly created world... A world where only time flowed and space expanded... There should have been no strife. But what became of the world? Because the human spirit is weak and incomplete, strife has spread... This world is being ruined by it... I find this state of affairs deplorable..."

Celestic Ruins

Before battle

Elder Woman: "The cave painting's meaning seems to be this... There existed beings... Beings so powerful, they were considered deities at the time. There were three Pokémon with power to match either being. The three kept balance with either being, as if they formed a pyramid. It's an ancient legend of Sinnoh that is still told in Celestic Town."

Cyrus: "I would like to know more about that legend, if you will."

Elder Woman: "Who might you be?"

Cyrus: "My name is Cyrus. I want to put an end to pointless strife and hostility. I am seeking the power to create the ideal world. Thus, I want you to answer. The world today can't change because the three Pokémon keep it in balance. Is that what you are saying?"

Elder Woman "I wouldn't know. I do know the world is in balance. I'm quite satisfied with the world the way it is. I'm not interested in your question."

Cyrus: "...Plead ignorance, will you? What a pointless attitude. You fail to appreciate that the world is incomplete. I will change the world. As the first step, I will destroy this cave painting that you've protected all these years. A new legend of a new world will take its place. Am I wrong? If you feel that way, challenge me."

Cyrus if player says no: "...You chose to be a coward. How sensible of you. Stand aside and watch as I change the world."

Elder Woman if talked to after refusing to battle: "That cave painting isn't protected simply because it's old. We've preserved it because we value the memories that it represents. It is a legacy of people and Pokémon beyond measure. A man who fails to understand that... What world could he dream of?"

Cyrus if player says yes: "...I know you, Trainer. We've met at Mt. Coronet. Why would you want to protect this incomplete world? As the boss of Team Galactic, I will show you the error of your ways."

After sending out last Pokémon

Cyrus: "You've forced my hand this time!"

Being defeated

Cyrus: "Impressive. Your prowess is notable."

After being defeated

Cyrus: "...Remarkable. But, Elder, your attitude told me what I needed to know. If the beings of time and space are brought together, they can't be stopped..."

Elder Woman: Elder After defeating Cyrus: "Such a strange, strange man. Spouting such nonsense. The time and space of Sinnoh are filled with memories and thoughts of countless people and Pokémon. This is a wonderful world. What need is there to change it? Oh, yes. I found something useful. You should take this. It belonged to my granddaughter, but she doesn't use it anymore. If a Pokémon learns Surf, it can carry you across water and the sea. You've been a great help. That's my thanks for it."

Team Galactic HQ

Cyrus: "Fellow members of Team Galactic! Hear me! My name, as I appear to you today, is Cyrus. This world of ours is a crude one. In a word, it is incomplete. It has been, and always will be, a struggle to survive in this world. We humans and Pokémon are likewise incomplete. Because we are all so lacking, we fight, we maim... It is ugly. I hate the incompleteness. That we are all incomplete, I hate it with my entire body and being. The world should be complete. The world must change. Then, who will change it? Me, Cyrus. And Team Galactic. Yes, all of you. Together we pored over myths and exposed their secrets. Together we captured legendary Pokémon. And now, Team Galactic has obtained the energy to change the world! The power of dreams is within our grasp! Understand it, fellow members! My long-held dreamworld is on the verge of becoming reality. All those headed to Mt. Coronet, and those who remain here... Though our missions may differ, our hearts beat as one. Let there be glory for Team Galactic!"

Before battle

Cyrus: "...So you've come. You heard my speech, I take it. Snicker... A big lie, of course. It's true, insofar as my intention is to create a new world. But that world isn't for the likes of Team Galactic. I seek an entirely new world solely for myself. If not, it could never be the complete and perfect world. You've seen my minions of Team Galactic. You yourself must know that they are uniformly useless and incomplete."

Cyrus: "I know why you're here. I can sense it in you. It's about Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf, correct? You want to save them... I no longer have any need for them. I am finished with them. If your heart aches to save them, go right ahead. I couldn't care less. It will save me the trouble of disposing them."

Cyrus: "But, I must say... You are a remarkable specimen. Those Pokémon have nothing to do with you, do they? But still you come to rescue them out of pity? Such pitifully useless emotions... It's illogical and irrational. Pity and compassion are products of the weak and faulty human heart. You were compelled to come here by such vacuous sentimentality! I will make you regret paying heed to your heart!"

After sending out last Pokémon

Cyrus: "My last Pokémon."

During battle (last Pokémon with less than half HP)

Cyrus: "I see... I may lose if this pace continues..."

Being defeated

Cyrus: "Interesting. And quite curious."

After being defeated

Cyrus: "I see... You are indeed strong. And the basis of your power is your compassion towards Pokémon."

Cyrus: "...How wasteful... Such emotions are but mere illusions. And, like all illusions, they fade over time until death banishes them forever. That is why I have abandoned all emotions as useless as sentimentality."

Cyrus: "...But that doesn't matter.

Instead, I make the power of Pokémon my own."

Cyrus: "If you wish to save the Pokémon from the lakes, take the warp panel ahead. I am off to Mt. Coronet. I will ascend the mountain to its peak where destiny awaits me. It is there that I will create my new world..."

Spear Pillar

Cyrus: "... ... Everything is ready for the creation of a new world. Now, all will end. And everything will begin. With this, the Red Chain made from the crystals of the three lake Pokémon. And this, the Red Chain I replicated with technological means... With these Red Chains I will pry open the portal to another dimension. I command that you unleash your power for me..."

Cyrus: "Dialga, the mythical Pokémon, and the master of time! ...And the other. Palkia, the mythical Pokémon, and the master of space and dimensions!"

Cyrus: "I've waited so long for this moment, Dialga and Palkia. Shaping this world is a double spiral of time and space. Yes, the very things that you have the ability to control! You will do my bidding! I will have your abilities as mine! With the power I wield, I will create an entirely new world! The incomplete and ugly world we have now can disappear. I am resetting everything to zero. Nothing can remain. It is all for making the ultimate world. A world of complete perfection. Nothing so vague and incomplete as spirit can remain."

Cyrus: "...I should have expected as much. Uxie, "The Being of Knowledge." Azelf, "The Being of Willpower." And Mesprit, "The Being of Emotion"..." "The Pokémon have come to protect Sinnoh? Pathetic and worthless. It takes the three of them, the three lake Pokémon that symbolize spirit, to balance either the Pokémon of time or space. But they can't maintain balance against the two. Not when both Dialga and Palkia are here. Their coming here is in vain. So much meaningless drama. Now, [player]. You've constantly interfered with my plans, but you will be forgiven. After all, there will remain no spirit for all time when I am done. All spirit will disappear. It will be ripped away... From you! From your Pokémon! From those precious to you...! It is time! My dream will be my reality!"

Cyrus: "What is this pressure I feel...? Something...is enraged?"

Cyrus: "Interesting. So, there is a Pokémon that can only appear as a shadow."

Cyrus: "Regardless, the effort is rash and foolish. I have harnessed the powers of Dialga and Palkia..."

Cyrus: "I, Cyrus, won't have any more interferererererere...!"

[Giratina appears, sends Cyrus to the Distortion World. Then Azelf, Uxie, go into distortion world and Mesprit looks at you before going in]

Distortion World

Cyrus: "...The shadowy Pokémon isn't here. It abandoned me here, then disappeared somewhere farther down... Was it content to merely interfere with my plan...? Incidentally, do you understand the concept of genes?"

Cyrus if player says Yes: "...If it's true, you've impressed me."

Cyrus if player says No: "...No, of course, you wouldn't."

Cyrus: "Genes can be considered the blueprints of all life-forms. That includes humans and Pokémon alike. Genes are contained in a DNA strand. A DNA strand consists of 2 chains of opposing characteristics in a spiral. If one of the chains were to be broken, the other could replicate it. One or the other cannot exist without its opposite."

Cyrus: "Do you understand where I am going with this? This is a bizarre world. Time doesn't flow. Space isn't stable. Only that shadowy Pokémon lives here. This world is the opposite of our world-- our world I wish to change. It is like the two chains composing the strand of DNA. The two worlds must be balancing each other to remain in existence. Without one, the other cannot exist. The shadowy Pokémon must play a role in keeping the worlds in balance. That is why it must have interfered and brought me here. The shadowy Pokémon must have made this bizarre world. That's why trying to change our world disturbed it and made it reveal itself. But that is all irrelevant. What matters is defeating that Pokémon and making this world disappear. I won't allow it to interfere with me again. With it gone, neither world will be able to revert to its original state..."

Cynthia:"...So you were already here. Why do you seek to change the world? If you hate our world you should just go off somewhere alone. Find somewhere where you can live without seeing others."

Cyrus when met again: "Why should I run and hide from the world and have to wait quietly? My aim is to rid our world of the vague and incomplete thing we call spirit. By freeing ourselves of that, our world can be made complete. That is my justice! No one can interfere!"

Before battle

Cyrus:"I won't lose! Not to that shadowy Pokémon! Not in any worthless world!"

After sending out last Pokémon

Cyrus: "I admit that you have pushed me to this extreme."

During battle (last Pokémon with less than half HP)

Cyrus: "This... this cannot be! It's not possible that I lose!"

Being defeated

Cyrus: "I won't accept this! This can't be! Not after all the sacrifices we've made to get this far! What of my new world?! Of my new galaxy?! Was this all a dream to be swept away by your reality?!"

After being defeated

Cyrus: "... Don't think that you can defeat or capture that Pokémon. This bizarre world is none other than that Pokémon itself! Capturing it or defeating it will make this world disappear! Very well! Do what you will! Rather than repairing the world, you're going to destroy it for me! Do it. You inherit my legacy."

Cynthia After you defeat Cyrus: "Don't believe his lies. It's not possible that a Pokémon can make the world disappear. The world awaited your birth. Not only yours, either. The Pokémon with you. The people close to you. All the Pokémon and people were born because they have a part in the world. I'm convinced of that. Giratina won't go out of existence. The Distortion World won't disappear. Our world won't disappear, either. Let's go meet Giratina. ...Oops. I should do something about your hardworking Pokémon first. Now let's go meet Giratina!"

Cynthia: "Giratina is enraged because the two worlds are endangered. It has merged the Distortion World and our world at the Spear Pillar. That's why both worlds are becoming distorted. But there's nothing to fear. You can defeat Giratina and show the tight bond you share with your Pokémon. Or you can demonstrate how much you want it to join you. If you succeed in doing either, Giratina will understand. The distortion of the two worlds will stop!"

Cynthia if talked to again: "I know that the bond you share with your Pokémon is strong!"

After battle with Giratina

Cynthia: “Giratina seems to have understood us!”

Cyrus: "That Pokémon... That shadowy Pokémon was captured/defeated?!/That shadowy Pokémon... You quelled its rage by refusing to battle it?! Your doing so means that this irrational world will remain in existence! Does that make it impossible for me to create a new world? Even if I made new Red Chains, the new world can't be made! Why?! What compels you to protect the two worlds? Is spirit, a vague and incomplete thing, so important to you?!"

Cynthia "...The places we are born. The time we spend living... The languages we speak... We are all different. But the presence of Pokémon unites us. We share our lives with our Pokémon and our happiness grows as we all become greater than we were alone. That is why we can battle and trade with anyone we choose..."

Cyrus: "Silence! Enough of your blathering! That's how you justify spirit as something worthwhile?! That is merely humans hoping, deluding themselves that they are happy and safe! The emotions roiling inside me... Rage, hatred, frustration... These ugly emotions arise because of my own incomplete spirit! ...Enough. We will never see eye to eye. This, I promise you. I will break the secrets of the world. With that knowledge, I will create my own complete and perfect world. One day, you will awaken to a world of my creation. A world without spirit."

Cynthia "... ... Since there is sadness, we can feel joy. When there is anger, compassion is born... Let's go back home. The portal where Giratina was should lead back to our world. Giratina was written as being on the other side of our world. It stands to a reason that it has a link to the other side."

Third-party descriptions

Old Couple in Sunyshore

Old woman: “A long time ago, there was a boy named Cyrus who lived here. He seemed to shun others, and he preferred the company of machines. He was a brilliant student, I recall. I often wonder what became of him.”

Old man: "I’d heard that Team Galactic was up to no good. But here in Sunyshore, we’ve never even seen any of them around. Of course, our Gym Leader Volkner is invincible in every way."

Man on Route 228 (Platinum Only)

Old man: "That Badge... It's from Sunyshore's Gym? You've been to that port town, then... Would... Would you lend an ear to this old man's talk?"

Old man if yes: "No... I shouldn't burden you with this. My grandson grew up in that city by the sea. Worn down by trying to live up to his parents' expectations, he found refuge in tinkering with machines. I wonder even now if I should have taken him in and raised him myself. Though I'm not certain if that would have been a good choice or not... I don't think anyone could say. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said any of this to you..."

Old man if no: "Ah... Pay me no heed, then. I only hoped to unburden myself of some guilt..."

Old Notebook

Note that it is not clear who wrote the old notebook and fans debate this. However, I am including this as an uncertain with a lean for Cyrus.

"Our encounter was a sudden one. It was when I found my toy robot, one that I had earlier misplaced. At that instant, a Pokémon startlingly emerged from the lawn mower's motor! Clutching my robot, I stared, transfixed by the peculiar Pokémon."

"The Pokémon hovered in the air, held aloft by a power unseen. As if curious and unafraid of my presence, it floated toward me. Crackling sounds accompanied it, as if from static electricity in the air. Remarkably, it seemed the Pokémon was the source of this power! In alarm, I flinched, certain that my face would be subjected to a shock. Much to my surprise, the Pokémon seemed to favor me with a smile."

"Finally, I came to realize that the Pokémon only wished to be friends. I have decided to name this most wondrous Pokémon 'Rotom.' Simple though it may be, Rotom emerged to me from the motor of a lawn mower. Motor and Rotom... Surely the link is obvious?"

"Rotom is a Pokémon that is simply sensational. The fact that it can turn invisible is simply the beginning. What makes Rotom unique is its ability to enter and operate machinery!"

"Rotom and I became fast friends. We were perpetual companions. The electricity from its body forbade contact, however. We could not touch, let alone hug or hold hands, but we cared not. For we were bonded on a much deeper, incorporeal level."

"A feeling of mischief got the better of me one day. Seeing Rotom hovering, I decided to startle it--normally I would not. Perhaps frightened, Rotom discharged power beyond its usual range. I fell, stunned, into the arms of unconsciousness..."

"When I came to, to my horror I realized that Rotom had disappeared. I searched high and low for my friend in dismay and desperation. 'Don't chastise yourself.' 'The fault is mine. No harm done.' 'Let us play as we always have.' Though my words poured out, my friend could not be found to hear them..."

"My search for Rotom carried me far from home. It was in the town's rubbish heap that I again found my old toy robot. Curiously, our eyes met, then the robot waved a hand as if in greeting. I knew then that I had found my lost friend. I ran to and hugged Rotom tight, talking on and on."

"The robot's eyes lit up happily as I held it. I'm certain that, within it, Rotom was emitting lots electricity. Somehow, I felt I could understand Rotom's thoughts better than before. Also, I realized that we would remain friends throughout our lives..."

Cynthia in Snowpoint City brings up Cyrus, though mostly to say she doesn't want to live in his world.

Cynthia: I think it’s good that our world is constantly changing. Of course, I don’t want it to become what only one person wants. A world like Cyrus envisions...No one would want that. The kind of world I want to see is where everyone can share their joy. Where Pokémon and the people around them can be happy for each other. I want the world to become a place where everyone is smiling. The world could be so much better if we all tried to make it that way.

Charon laments that Cyrus is so popular.

Charon: Sigh... So impressionable and impetuous. What do they see in Cyrus? Immature, overthinking buffoon. He goes through the trouble of assembling Team Galactic for what? Ultimately, he destroys his own creation for his ludicrous vision. It’s no thanks to him that I have to struggle with the pieces.

Saturn sounds mildly perplexed about Cyrus's plan despite going along with it.

Saturn: So, it’s you... I’ve heard about you and what took place at the Spear Pillar. Our leader, Master Cyrus, hated the very idea of spirit. He hated spirit for being incomplete. And yet, using fiery exhortations, he rallied the spirit of others. What he hated most, he used to control others. Isn’t that ironic? That fascinated me. I wanted to see what he would do. And I did. At his side. But it’s over. A world without spirit... Who would want such a thing?! So, what now...? What to do with Team Galactic? But I’ve learned that extremism is never the solution... Perhaps we should really be searching for new sources of energy. Instead of lying about it through our commercials.

Looker drops the detail that Cyrus is in his late twenties.

Looker: ...Whew. So, that was Cyrus, the boss of the Team Galactic. Quite the performance, no? Mesmerizing for one only 27 years old. ...But to make a world for Team Galactic and none other? It is preposterous. So much so that it makes my head spin. A new world? What is that? And what is this incomplete world? Very well. To investigate such matters is the job of the International Police. Of which I am a member in good stead. And it is my job, therefore. We shall part ways here. Take extra care, my friend!

Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon

In this game, a version of Cyrus is time-traveled to the present? I don't know, I haven't played this one.

Before battle

"Who are you...? It seems you are not a member of Team RR."

"...My name is Cyrus. I would like to ask you one question. Is this world the new world?"

Regardless of answer: "I can sense in you the strong desire to protect... something. You have a powerful spirit. ...That must mean this isn't the world I desired. I used the power of the Pokémon that control time and space to create a perfect world, where the human spirit does not exist. That was when a great shadow appeared and engulfed me... And brought me to this world.

"Is that a Pokédex...? May I have a look?"

"Interesting... In this world, even the Pokédex is..."

"... ... ... ... ... ... ...I see. So you have a spirit, as well. But it's too late... All too late. I cannot stop now. I must remove the weak, incomplete human spirit from this world and bring it perfection!"

"How foolish..."

"I will not let anyone get in my way..."

Being defeated

"Impressive. Your prowess is notable."

After being defeated

...Why are you able to create such strong bonds with your Pokémon? And how are you able to turn those bonds into strength?"

"...I see. ...You need not worry, Rotom. I will not do anything to this world. I believe I shall return to the perfect world I created. But before that...take this key."

"Use it to activate the machine on the wall behind me. That should open the mirror door."

"Had I met you sooner...would things have been different for me...?"

Pokemon Masters

Pokemon masters ex : New World Dilemma

Pokémon Center

Cynthia: I don't want to believe that he of all people has come to Pasio. We need to find the person responsible for what happened at the beach. Let's split up into two groups so we cover more ground. But if you find the culprit before I do, be careful. If it's who I think it is, he's a very dangerous man.

The Man from Another Dimension

Masked Man (1): Darn! All we managed to steal were weak Pokémon!

Masked Man (2): We need strong Pokémon for all our wicked schemes.

(Flash of light)

Masked Man (1): Wh-what was that?!

(Cyrus and Palkia appear)

Cyrus: Where am I?

Masked Man (1): H-hey, you! Where'd you come from?!

Masked Man (2): Sir! Look at that!

Masked Man (1): Well, well! That's quite a strong-looking Pokémon you have there!

Masked Man (2): You there! Hand over your Pokémon!

Masked Man (1): Don't ignore us, you punk!

Cyrus: Allow me to pass. Step aside.

Masked Man (1): Gah!

Masked Man (2): Th-that guy seems kinda dangerous, sir.

Masked Man (1): S-stop actin' all scared! C'mon! We're gonna steal his Pokémon!

(Screen fades to black)

Masked Man: Ahhh!

(Pokémon Center)

Cynthia: Do you have a moment, [player]?

Cheryl: We just heard about a group of Team Break members who have been injured. Will you help us look for the person who attacked them?

Cynthia: We know it's sudden—and this will be a dangerous task. But if my intuition is correct about who did this, the whole world could be in danger. Just this once, I hope my intuition is wrong.

Creating a New World

Cyrus: So, this is the artificial island of Pasio. This doesn't appear to be the world I desire.

???: You're—!

(Cheryl and the player appear)

Cyrus: You recognize me. Are you a Trainer from Sinnoh?

Cheryl: You're Cyrus, the leader of Team Galactic. I can't believe you're here on Pasio. What are you doing here? Cynthia told me that your plans were foiled in the place called the Distortion World.

Cyrus: The Distortion World? What are you talking about? I attempted to create a world without spirit using the powers of Dialga and Palkia—the Legendary Pokémon that control time and space. However, I was interrupted when a mysterious ring appeared. It swallowed me up and brought me here. If not for that, my new world would already be realized... No matter. My dream will not end here due to some minor setback. I will destroy this world and create a new one in its place!

Cheryl: Destroy the world?! We have to stop him, [player]!

(Cheryl sends out Blissey)

Cyrus: Do you really think you can?

(Cyrus sends out Palkia)

(The player and Cheryl battle Cyrus)

Cyrus: This is a waste of time. Palkia, deal with that annoying one first.

Cheryl: Look out, Blissey!

Cyrus: Pikachu, stop Palkia!/Protect Blissey!: See how powerless you are?

(Pikachu faints)

Cheryl: Pikachu! All this for Blissey's sake...

Cyrus: Do you know why you lost? Because your judgment was clouded by the vague, incomplete thing known as spirit. As long as you are burdened with incomplete spirit, you have no hope of defeating me.

???: Stop right there, Cyrus!

(Cynthia appears)

Cynthia: You've gone far enough! This ends here! Don't involve any of us in your foolish plans!

Cyrus: Your words mean nothing to me. I will create a new world! No matter what!

(Cyrus and Palkia disappear)

Cheryl: He's gone!

Cynthia: He got away. We need to stop Cyrus—and fast. Before it's too late! News of Cyrus, the leader of Team Galactic, quickly spread across all of Pasio. In response to the threat he posed, the PML staff entered a heightened state of alert.

(Transition to the forest)

Cyrus: Perhaps my battle on the beach was a mistake. I need more information, but circumstances as they are make that difficult. I need more information, but circumstances as they are make that difficult. Who's there?

(Rotom appears)

Cyrus: You're...

???: Hey, Rotom! Where are you?

(Sophocles appears)

Sophocles: Stop messing aroun— Ah!

Kindred Spirits

[Rotom floats up to Cyrus’s face]

Sophocles: Hey! Rotom! Wh-what are you doing?! I-I'm sorry. Is Rotom causing you trouble? Come on, Rotom. Get over here.

[Rotom wiggles]

Sophocles: Huh? What is it, Rotom?

Cyrus: Is this your Pokémon?

Sophocles: What? N-no, it belongs to another Trainer I know. We're just playing together. I like to tinker with machines and come up with inventions. Rotom was helping me out.

[cut to Rotom]

Cyrus: Tinkering with machines with Rotom, huh?

Sophocles: U-um, my name's Sophocles. What's your name, mister? I've never seen you on Pasio before.

Cyrus: Oh, I'm no one special.

Sophocles: Hehe. I think Rotom likes you.

Cyrus: I don't mind this Rotom. Or tinkering with machines, either.

Sophocles: U-um, then do you mind if we talked for a bit? I can tell you about Pasio if you're new here.

Cyrus: Very well.

[Several hours later, day has passed to night]

Sophocles: Gosh...I had no idea Rotom could do that! That was really informative. Thank you!

Cyrus: No thanks necessary. You gave me information as well.

Sophocles: Hehe. I still want to thank you. Now I can become even better friends with Rotom.

[pause, Sophocles makes a confused ? expression]

Cyrus: What do you think of this world?

Sophocles: Huh?

Cyrus: This world of ours is a crude one. In a word, it is incomplete. It has been, and always will be, a struggle to survive in this world. We humans and Pokémon are likewise incomplete. Because we are all so lacking, we fight, we maim... It is ugly. I hate the incompleteness.

[minor zoom]

Cyrus: That we are all incomplete, I hate it with my entire body and being. The world should be complete. The world must change.

Sophocles: Mister?

Cyrus: The reason for this is the human spirit. As it is vague and incomplete, so too is the world. What about you? Have you never felt pain or sadness due to your incomplete spirit?

[Turns and walks a few paces away]

Sophocles: I… ... ... ... I'm... I'm shy...and I've certainly felt lonely before. Sometimes I've felt really sad while I'm alone. But... Big Mo and Pokémon were there to fill the lonely hole in my heart. The stuff you're saying is hard for me to understand... but I think my human spirit is why I'm able to feel all these warm, fuzzy emotions in the first place.

Cyrus: ... ... ... I see...

Sophocles: U-um, why did you say all that stuff to me?

[zoom to Cyrus’s back]

Cyrus: Because you remind me of a child I know very well. But apparently I was mistaken.

Sophocles: Mister...

[Cyrus walks away]

Elesa: There you are, Sophocles.

(Elesa appears)

Sophocles: Hi, Elesa.

Elesa: I was looking for you. By the way, that guy you were just talking to...

Sophocles the Brave

Sophocles: No way! That was Cyrus of Team Galactic?!

Cynthia: Yes. He's a dangerous man wanted by the International Police.

Cheryl: Would you mind telling us what you two talked about, Sophocles?

Sophocles: U-uh, well... Oh! He asked me lots of questions about how and why sync pairs are transported to Pasio. But I didn't know, either, so I told him that the people who run the PML probably know, and that they might even be involved in the process, too.

Cheryl: Maybe Cyrus wants to go back to where he came from.

Cynthia: Or maybe he wants to use that power to bring Dialga to Pasio. In any case, his goal is to complete his plan that was interrupted when he was brought here. To destroy this world and create a new one...

Sophocles: … ... ...

Cheryl: Cyrus is trying to obtain the power that brought him to Pasio. If that's the case, he'll want to see Lear, the host of the PML. There's a good chance that we can ambush him while he's heading to Lear's villa.

Elesa: Sophocles, did you two talk about anything else?

Sophocles: W-well... He asked a lot of questions about Rotom...and about me, too.

Elesa: He did?

Sophocles: He wanted to know about my inventions, and how I felt when I made them. He also kept staring at Rotom.

Elesa: Why would Cyrus do that?

Cheryl: Come to think of it, I remember this story I heard when I was in Sinnoh visiting Sunyshore City. A boy named Cyrus used to live there, and he would spend all his time doing nothing except playing with machines. Assuming it's the same person...

Sophocles: I… I want to stop Cyrus. I think the human spirit is important, even if it is vague and incomplete.

Cheryl: Sophocles...

Sophocles: Besides, I'm sure even Cyrus has things in this world that he likes and are important to him. I don't want him to lose that part of himself.

Cynthia: … ... ...

Player: I think so, too.:

Sophocles: [player]...

Yes! It has to be true! Right?

Player: Let's stop Cyrus together!

Sophocles: [player]... Thank you!

Elesa: Hehe. Didn't Cyrus completely wipe the floor with you? You've got guts—that's for sure.

Player: It's because I like this world.

Elesa: Yes. I do, too.

Player: It's because spirit is important.

Elesa: Yes. I agree. Let's make Cyrus understand how we feel! OK, Rotom. If you want to stop Cyrus, then you should team up with Sophocles. After our conversation just now, I think that would be best, so go with him.

Cheryl: I’ll go, too. Let's stop Cyrus together.

Sophocles: Elesa, Cheryl...thank you!

(The player, Cheryl, and Sophocles leave)

Elesa: I’m going to round up some other sync pairs and search for Cyrus. What are you going to do, Cynthia?

Cynthia: Those kids are something else...

Elesa: Hm?

Cynthia: I rejected Cyrus's warped justification for wanting to change the world. I even thought, if he hates the world so much, he should go somewhere far away and leave the rest of us alone. But those kids haven't rejected Cyrus. Why, they're trying to find a way to coexist with him.

Elesa: Cynthia...

Cynthia: If they're serious about trying to stop him, then I've got to get serious myself. Both as an adult living in this world and as a Trainer!

(Transition to Cyrus in a field)

Cyrus: The time is nigh to set my dream in motion once again.

Sophocles: Cyrus!

(The player, Cheryl, and Sophocles appear)

Cyrus: It seems you've realized why I'm here. So be it...

(Cyrus sends out Palkia)

Cyrus: I won't let anyone interfere with my plans!

Bonds of Spirit

(The player, Cheryl, and Sophocles battle Cyrus)

Sophocles: Cyrus, stop! You don't have to change the world!

Cyrus: This world is a twisted place full of ugly humans. It will remain that way forever unless I change the world. I will make the ultimate world. A world of complete perfection. Nothing so vague and incomplete as spirit can remain.

Sophocles: Cyrus!

Cyrus: Enough!

(Blissey and Pikachu faint)

Cheryl: So this is the power of a Legendary Pokémon...

Cyrus: A mere Rotom can do nothing against me. Allow me to pass. Step aside. You'll understand one day. Then again, whether you understand or not is irrelevant. One day, you will awaken to a world of my creation. A world without spirit. If you refuse to get out of my way...

Cynthia: Go, Kommo-o!

(Kommo-o appears)

Cyrus: Where did that Pokémon come from?!

Sophocles: It's...

(Cynthia appears)

Cheryl: Cynthia!

Cynthia: Cyrus! I won't let you try to change this world! If your strength lies in a steadfast will that rejects spirit... then mine lies in the bonds that are born from spirit! Face me, Cyrus!

A Perfect, Complete Answer

(Palkia and Kommo-o battle)

Cynthia: Palkia's power is incredible...

Cyrus: Even in the hands of a Champion, your Pokémon is merely ordinary. It stands no chance against a Legendary Pokémon like Palkia. Especially if you believe in something as vague as spirit.

Cynthia: You don't understand. Spirit is what creates the bonds between people and Pokémon. Those bonds are what created this world and made it what it is today. And this world is all the more precious for it!

Cyrus: You have your beliefs. I have mine. The spirit and bonds of which you speak have warped this world beyond repair. The only remedy now is to destroy it.

Cynthia: Then you are truly lost...

Cyrus: Silence! There is nothing more to say!

Sophocles: Cyrus!

Cynthia: Listen to me, Kommo-o... I raised you from an Egg, watched you get stronger through training here on Pasio, and made you my partner Pokémon. We built our bond from the ground up. This world is full of people and Pokémon who will go on to create bonds with each other. Someone who rejects this world of ours... can never defeat us!

(Sync stone activates with a white flash)

Cynthia: My sync stone...

Cheryl: Cynthia's sync stone is shining!

Cynthia: All right, Kommo-o! Let's show them the power of our bond!

(Palkia faints)

Cyrus: What?! Palkia, the Legendary Pokémon, lost?!

Cynthia: Thank you, Kommo-o. It's over, Cyrus. You're coming with me.

Cyrus: I won't accept this! This can't be! Not after all the sacrifices we've made to get this far! What of my new world?! Of my new galaxy?! Was this all a dream to be swept away by your reality?! How could I lose to someone with an incomplete spirit?!

Cynthia: Because... you're a human being, too. Your spirit is just as incomplete as anyone else's.

Cyrus: Hrgh!

Cynthia: We're all born in different places. We live different lives and speak different languages. But the one thing we all share is that we have Pokémon by our sides to bring us joy. Because of that, we can compete in Pokémon battles against people we don't even know. That's the world we live in. Every single one of us—including you.

Cyrus: Silence! Enough of your blathering! That's how you justify spirit as something worthwhile?! That is merely humans hoping, deluding themselves that they are happy and safe! The emotions roiling inside me... Rage, hatred, frustration... These ugly emotions arise because of my own incomplete spirit!

Cynthia: Cyrus...

Sophocles: Even so, the human spirit is a precious thing! The times we're feeling sad and lonely are what make us appreciate the happy moments even more. That's why you can hate this world, Cyrus. Because you've experienced those happy moments before!

Cyrus:

Cynthia: Sophocles...

Sophocles: If you lose your human spirit, you won't be able to feel negative emotions... but you also won't be able to experience joy or happiness, either. I can't stand the thought of a world like that! Because... if we all lose our human spirit, I can't become friends with you, Cyrus!

Cyrus: So, you and this Rotom are different from me after all. We can't understand each other.

Cynthia: Get out of here, Cyrus.

Cheryl: Cynthia?!

Cynthia: If you ever try to do something like this again, I'll see to it personally that you face justice. I won't let you change this world just because you've fallen into despair. But... I hope you change your ways while you're in this world.

Cyrus: Never. I am who I am.

(Cyrus leaves)

Sophocles: Cyrus...

Cheryl: Do you think he'll change?

Player:: I do.

Cheryl: I’d like to hope so, too.

Player:: I don't know.

Cheryl: I know how you feel. It's very difficult for people to change their way of thinking.

Cynthia: This experience might have been the nudge in the right direction he needed. The rest is up to him.

Sophocles: I believe he can change. He has a human spirit, too, after all!

Cynthia: Yes. I think so, too. I'm sure he'll be fine. My intuition is never wrong about this sort of thing.

(Transition to Cyrus at the Volcano)

Cyrus: I won't change. The new world I desire is far greater than this one. It has to be. That's why I must stay the course. Only then will I have a perfect, complete answer!

Sinnoh: Dreaming in Darkness

Team Galactic on the Move

(Cyrus wakes up in a void)

Cyrus: What is this place? Never-ending darkness, stretching on for eternity in a world where nothing exists...

(Darkrai appears behind Cyrus)

(Transition to Cyrus on the beach along with the Team Galactic commanders and grunts)

Jupiter: Master Cyrus!

Mars: What have you done to him?!

Saturn: Quick, we have to do something to help!

Cyrus: No need for concern.

Mars: M-Master Cyrus!

Cyrus: Don't waste your time. I will never succumb to your nightmares.

(Cyrus sends out Palkia and defeats Darkrai)

Cyrus: Your power is mine now.

Saturn: Splendid, Master Cyrus! You've made that Pokémon submit to you! Master Cyrus, what would you like to do next?

Cyrus: Hmm... ... ... ... This Darkrai is a Mythical Pokémon. It sends others into a deep slumber and shows them nightmares. And now, it's under my command. Combined with the strength you all lend me, we can now create the ideal world we've always dreamed of!

Team Galactic Grunt (1): Yeaaaaah!

Team Galactic Grunt (2): Team Galactic is the best! Long live Master Cyrus!

Cyrus: In order to carry out our plans, I'm thinking of using sync stones.

Mars: Sync stones? What're those?

Cyrus: They are stones that allow sync pairs to use tremendous power. We must learn more about these stones—and about the sygna suit outfits that certain sync pairs seem to favor. That said, I have no intent of relying on a connection between hearts. Instead, we will prove that technology is capable of drawing out the full power of these sync stones!

Mars: Yes, sir!

Cyrus: In that nightmare Darkrai showed me... There was a world of solitude—of never-ending darkness. A world without spirit...devoid of joy or despair. That is the ideal world I’ve been searching for.

(Transition to Professor Bellis's Lab)

Professor Bellis: I see we're all here. Let's get started, then! I received some intel that the International Police have now started their investigation on Pasio. According to their report, Team Rocket isn't the only group active on Pasio—Team Galactic is now on the move, too!

Lillie: Team Galactic?

Barry: They're a group of baddies from the Sinnoh region!

Lucas: They said they wanted to create a new world... But they tried to steal Pokémon and Professor Rowan's research! They caused all sorts of trouble for us!

Dawn: Maybe we should let Cynthia know about this, too.

Lucas: Good idea! I'd feel better with her helping us out.

Barry: OK! Just you wait, Team Galactic! You won't get away with your dirty deeds as long as I'm around!

(Barry leaves)

Lucas: Oh, there he goes again...

Dawn: Guess it's up to us to find Cynthia, then!

Lillie: We'll stay here and protect Professor Bellis!

Paulo: If anything happens, let us know. We can help you out if things get dicey.

Dawn: Thanks! We're on it!

(Transition to Cynthia at the ruins)

Cynthia: Did you find anything that interests you, Giratina? You sure seem interested in something. I wonder if that's how people see me when I'm working, too.

(Dawn and Lucas appear)

Dawn: There you are, Cynthia! I thought you might be here!

Lucas: Are you checking out the ruins again today?

Cynthia: I sure am. Giratina seemed interested in them, too.

Lucas: But...the ruins on Pasio are just replicas of ruins from other regions, aren't they?

Cynthia: They are. But Legendary Pokémon seem to have been appearing here. As an archaeologist, I'm always curious about the authenticity of ruins—and what kind of history they have. But I think Giratina's more interested in the traces of other Pokémon that came here.

Dawn: I see... Maybe it kept seeing you surveying these ruins and wanted to copy you!

Cynthia: *chuckle* That's another valid theory! Either way, I can sense that Giratina's own heart has led it here to see these ruins for reasons that are different from mine. Oh. What's wrong, Giratina? Did you find something?

(Dialga appears)

Dawn: Dialga?! What's it doing here?

Cynthia: Cyrus had Palkia with him before... Perhaps he's also brought Dialga here to Pasio, too?

Dawn: I don't see anyone else here, though.

Lucas: Weird...

(Dialga disappears)

Lucas: I wonder if it was trying to tell us something...

Cynthia: It didn't seem aggressive, so I don't think it was Cyrus's Pokémon.

Lucas: Well, we're still not sure about that.

Dawn: Actually, we've heard that Team Galactic is resuming its operations on Pasio! What if that just now was a warning from Team Galactic?

Cynthia: Team Galactic, huh.

Dawn: Will you help us stop them?

Cynthia: Of course. You have my help.

Dawn: Awesome! Thank you, Cynthia!

Cynthia: Cyrus... If you're up to your old tricks again, I'll have no choice but to stop you. Is there no hope of you changing in this world we share? (Transition to an Ace Trainer in the mountain)

???: Phew!

(Looker removes his disguise)

???: Next up is the Team Galactic hideout!

(Looker disguises as a Team Galactic grunt)

???: I won’t let 'em get away.

The Darkest Nightmare

(Brock and Erika confront Team Galactic grunts amid Trainers trapped in a nightmare)

Erika: We won't let you get away with this anymore!

Team Galactic Grunt: Ugh! These Trainers might be trouble!

Jupiter: Hmph. So that's what those so-called sygna suits look like?

(Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn appear)

Brock: Who are you people?

Mars: Oh, us? We're the three commanders of Team Galactic!

Saturn: We'll crush anyone who even tries to get in our way!

(Brock and Erika battle and defeat Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn)

Jupiter: Hmph. You got us. You're pretty strong.

Barry: There they are! Team Galactic!

(Barry appears)

Jupiter: Oh, I remember you, kid. You're that brat I beat at Lake Acuity. I hope you're not still so laughably weak.

Mars: Whatever. We don't have to waste our time with you right now.

(Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn leave)

Barry: Hey! Come back here!

???: Dar...Dark...is...

Barry: ... ... ...?! What's going on here?

Hiker: Ugh... N-no...

Erika: This man seems to be having a terrible nightmare...

Barry: Really? But why?

Hiker: ... ... ... Bwah!

Erika: Thank goodness—you're awake.

Brock: What happened here?

Hiker: I-I don't really remember... Before I knew it, I was dreaming...and walking around in this never-ending darkness... No matter how far I went, it was pitch-black as far as I could see! Waaaaaaaaaah!

Erika: It's OK. Please calm down!

Brock: We should investigate this phenomenon to figure out what's happening.

Barry: Could you tell Dawn and the others? I'm gonna follow Team Galactic before they get away!

(Transition to Professor Bellis's Lab)

Cynthia: So people are seeing mysterious nightmares. Thanks for letting me know.

Dawn: I think I might know what's causing that. Something like this happened before in Canalave City.

Lucas: Professor Rowan told me about a Mythical Pokémon called Darkrai that lives in the Sinnoh region. Apparently, it can make people and Pokémon experience horrific nightmares.

Dawn: Team Galactic might be using Darkrai to make everyone have those nightmares!

Paulo: Which means Team Galactic is misusing this Pokémon and its power?

Lillie: What an awful thing to do!

Dawn: I know. We have to stop them before they do even more damage!

Cynthia: Agreed. We can't let them abuse Pokémon like that. That said...

Dawn: Hm? What's wrong, Cynthia?

Cynthia: I still believe Cyrus can change his ways here on Pasio. If we want to stop Team Galactic, brute force won't cut it. We have to change their mindset and ideas.

Paulo: ... ... ...

Dawn: Understood! That's probably the best course of action, if we can do it.

Cynthia: Thank you, Dawn.

Professor Bellis: Hey, everyone! I just received more intel from the International Police! They've found Team Galactic's hideout! And I hear Barry is also on his way there, too!

Cynthia: I see. Then I suppose it's time for a showdown.

Dawn: Yeah! Let's go and stop Team Galactic!

(Transition to Cynthia, Dawn, and Lucas meeting Barry at the hideout)

Cynthia: Sorry, but do you mind if we split up here? I think it'll be more efficient to scope out the enemy separately than as a group.

Lucas: Huh? But...

Dawn: OK! I trust your judgment, Cynthia!

Cynthia: Thank you.

Lucas: Be careful out there, Cynthia!

Cynthia: You too. Good luck!

(Cynthia leaves)

Dawn: So, what's our plan for getting into the hideout?

Barry: Well, obviously we just gotta barge in through the front door, right?

Dawn: Yeah. If we draw all the attention to us, I bet that would make things easier on Cynthia, too. Ready to cut loose?

Barry: Haha! I'm glad you're on board! Let's do this! Ready or not, here we come! (Transition to the trio confronting Team Galactic grunts in the hideout)

Team Galactic Grunt (1): I heard that some brats were making a fuss right in our hideout. We'll get rid of you for Master Cyrus!

Dawn: Wait! Do you even know what he's trying to do?

Team Galactic Grunt (1): Heh. What a question.

Team Galactic Grunt (2): Master Cyrus is trying to change the world for the better! For all of us!

Barry: Wake up, would you?! That's not even close to the truth!

Dawn: If he carries out his plan, you might get erased from this world, you know!

Team Galactic Grunt (1): Save your breath. Our master's methods are beyond reproach!

Team Galactic Grunt (2): There's no way anything wrong will happen if we stick with Master Cyrus!

Lucas: It's no good. We're not getting through to them.

Dawn: Are we not going to be able to solve this by reasoning with them?

Team Galactic Grunt (1): Get 'em! Everyone attack!

???: Go! Croagunk!

(Looker disguised as a Team Galactic grunt battles the other grunts)

Team Galactic Grunt (1): Whoa, what?! What just happened?!

The Galactic Hideout

Dawn: Help us out, Torterra!

(The trio defeat the Team Galactic grunts)

Team Galactic Grunt (1): Ugh! Let's retreat!

(The Team Galactic grunts leave)

Lucas: Phew! That was a huge help.

Barry: But why'd that grunt attack members of his own team?

???: To fool your enemies, you must first fool your allies!

(Looker removes his disguise)

Looker: Phew! Long time no see!

Lucas: Ah! You’re that weird guy from Jubilife City!

Looker: You really have a knack for saying the rudest things, you know that?

Lucas: Sorry... I'm on edge from these battles with Team Galactic.

Dawn: So you're who the International Police sent to investigate Pasio!

Looker: Sure am! Glad to team up with you on an investigation again! Team Galactic Grunt: Hurry, we need reinforcements! Over here!

Looker: Looks like they're calling for backup. Go on, leave this to me.

(Looker disguises as a Team Galactic grunt)

Looker: No time to lose. Keep heading deeper into the hideout!

Dawn: Thank you, Looker! Be careful!

Looker: You too. Best of luck. (Transition to Cynthia in the hideout)

Cynthia: This is going off without a hitch. I guess Dawn and the others are luring the enemy their way?

Jupiter: Hold it right there, Champion Cynthia.

(Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn appear)

Saturn: We commanders will take you on full-force! You won't be going anywhere.

Cynthia: Oh, perfect timing. I wanted to have a little talk with you.

Mars: Hmph! We don’t have anything to discuss with the likes of you!

Cynthia: Is that so? Then I suppose I'll have my skill in battle speak for me.

(Cynthia battles Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn)

Jupiter: Ugh. This Champion is more trouble than I thought.

Cynthia: Do you really understand what Cyrus is trying to do?

Saturn: You think we don’t?! He's seeking more power to create a brand-new universe!

Cynthia: And what happens after that? Has Cyrus told you what he really intends to do? Even a little bit?

Mars: Oh, shush! As long as it's what Master Cyrus wants, we're with him every step of the way!

Cynthia: Are you sure you don't want to know what kind of person he is, and what he's thinking?

Saturn: What kind of person he is?

Cynthia: It wouldn't hurt to see what he's truly trying to accomplish, right? It's not like checking that first would cause any delay in your plans.

Cyrus's True Ambitions

Lucas: It looks like this is as far as we can go...

Dawn: Oh!

(Cyrus appears)

Cyrus: You've been causing quite the ruckus, but that ends here.

(Dialga and Palkia appear)

Cyrus: Get them. Dialga...you dare to defy me? If you shun my ideals, you're useless to me. Destroy it, Palkia.

(Palkia attacks Dialga)

Lucas: Stop it!

Cyrus: ... ... ...

Lucas: What is this ideal world of yours, anyway? After all that hurt you caused the people and Pokémon of Sinnoh, that's your plan? You're just gonna use everyone, then throw them away when they're not useful to you anymore? Is that the ideal world you want?

Cyrus: That is what it means to think efficiently. An incomplete spirit will only get in the way of making the right choices.

(Flashback to New World Dilemma)

Sophocles: If we all lose our human spirit, I can't become friends with you, Cyrus!

(Flashback ends)

Cyrus: Human spirit is the cause of our suffering, worries, and mistakes! I must fix this twisted world! This world must be rid of incomplete spirit—and become one where feelings such as joy, anger, and despair no longer exist! All human spirit must be erased! No exceptions!

(Transition to the Lab where Cheryl, Elesa, Lillie, Paulo, Sophocles, Professor Bellis, and the player listen to Cyrus's speech)

Cyrus: All human spirit must be erased! No exceptions!

Paulo: We make mistakes...because of our human spirit?

Cheryl: ... ... ...

Sophocles: Cyrus...

(Transition to the hideout)

Mars: Master Cyrus...

Cynthia: This is the world your boss Cyrus is really trying to achieve.

Saturn: But...

Cynthia: If you have any feelings—the human spirit that Cyrus is talking about—within you... then I think it might be worth reconsidering a few things. Even if it's just a little bit. That's all I had to say. I'll be on my way now.

(Cynthia leaves)

Mars: We followed Master Cyrus because we were drawn to his vision of that wonderful new galaxy he spoke of...

Jupiter: Does this mean we were kept in the dark about his true ideals?

Saturn: This loyalty we feel for him... Is that something he finds worthless, too?

Together in Spirit

(Cyrus defeats the trio)

Dawn: Our Pokémon!

Lucas: No... I won't let you!

Dawn: Lucas, come back! It's dangerous!

Cyrus: She's right. There is no reason for you to protect Dialga.

Lucas: No way! I'm not like you! I'll keep battling to the very end if it's to help a Pokémon! (A light flashes)

Lucas: ... ... ...?! What's this?

Dawn: Lucas's sync stone is reacting to his feelings of wanting to save Dialga?

Barry: Seriously? Lucas is gonna be partners with a Legendary Pokémon?!

Lucas: You...you want to lend us your power, don't you. Got it! Then let's do this, Dialga!

(Lucas uses his sync move and defeats Palkia)

Cyrus: So, Dialga... You've chosen human spirit, have you? Fine. You can have that Pokémon. That saves me the trouble of disposing of it.

Lucas: You're saying that again?!

Cyrus: Soon enough, you won't have to feel that anger anymore.

(Darkrai appears and disappears with Cyrus)

Dawn: What was that Pokémon? And just now...

(Cynthia and Looker appear)

Looker: C'est une catastrophe! Could you come with me?! (Transition to the group finding Team Galactic grunts in a nightmare)

Dawn: What in the...

Team Galactic Grunt: Urgh...ugh...

Barry: This is the same as what I saw earlier!

Lucas: Wait. Does that mean this was all caused by that Mythical Pokémon?

Saturn: Precisely.

Saturn: These people were used in experiments to test Darkrai’s power.

A few days later...

(Professor Bellis's Lab)

Cynthia: Ever since that incident, it seems Cyrus has been putting his plans into action. Sync pairs all over Pasio are falling asleep and having terrible nightmares... And they're not waking up.

Looker: We're making sure the affected sync pairs are getting treated at the Pokémon Center.

Lillie: I'm so worried... When I think about what would happen if my family were ever affected...

Dawn: Hey, everyone! Good news! We were able to wake up all the sync pairs that were asleep because of Darkrai!

Looker: What?! Really?!

Cynthia: That's fantastic, Dawn! How'd you do that?

Dawn: Together with Cresselia and her power!

(Dawn sends out Cresselia)

Dawn: As long as we work together, we can help everyone! No matter what kind of nightmares everyone is having, we'll make things all right again! 'Cause we're here to protect them all!

The Nightmare Spreads

(Cyrus appears in a void with his sygna suit)

Cyrus: I see nothing... Feel nothing... There is nothing but me within the chill of darkness... At long last, I've found the ideal world I seek. A perfect, complete world where no one can be led astray by their incomplete human spirit...

(Professor Bellis's Lab)

Dawn: Sorry to keep you waiting! How do you like my sygna suit?

Lucas: It looks great on you, Dawn! And it matches Cresselia, too!

Barry: Yeah, you look super cool—like a hero!

Dawn: Really? A hero? That IS cool! I hope I can be just like all those heroes out there and help everyone out! Though, there is more to it than that...

Cynthia: Sygna suits help you feel more connected to your partner Pokémon, don't they?

Dawn: Yup!

Cynthia: I've made a commitment to face Cyrus again. This outfit represents that conviction. Though originally, it started off as a way to help me forge a stronger bond with Giratina.

Lucas: When I battled Cyrus...he seemed sad, somehow. It's awful that he abandoned Dialga... But if there's any way we can make him understand, I'm on board!

Cynthia: Agreed. Cyrus's goal is to create a complete world...so eliminating people and Pokémon isn't necessarily his true ambition. I think there's a chance that, deep down, he still has a heart that cares. And I still believe he can change.

???: H-hey... Everyone...

(Professor Sycamore appears trapped in a nightmare)

Cynthia: Professor Sycamore! What happened to you?!

Professor Sycamore: Be careful... Darkrai's nightmare... It's taken over...

Professor Bellis: Darkrai?!

Professor Sycamore: It's swallowing up...all...of Pasio... ... ... ...

Dawn: Professor Sycamore!

Cynthia: It's OK. He's just asleep.

Dawn: Thank goodness... But wait! If he's asleep, that's bad!

Cynthia: He mentioned Darkrai and nightmares, didn't he. Could it be...?

(Transition to the group finding other Trainers trapped in a nightmare in town)

Barry: H-hey! I thought we woke everyone up with Cresselia's power!

Lucas: Is Darkrai getting so strong that it's overpowering Cresselia? Cyrus and Team Galactic must've done something to it!

Dawn: Oh no... This is bad!

Cynthia: At this rate we may fall asleep, even with Cresselia nearby to protect us. Be strong, everyone! If we aren't, we'll all get sucked into Darkrai's nightmare!

Galactic Alliance

(Professor Bellis's Lab)

Dawn: Everyone fell asleep again... I wonder what Cyrus is trying to accomplish by using Darkrai's power.

Cynthia: Cyrus's vision is to create a world devoid of human spirit... Therefore, he must be doing this because Darkrai's nightmare is close to his ideal world.

Barry: You're kidding, right? You mean he actually wants these nightmares?!

Lucas: If Darkrai's nightmare is Cyrus's ideal world... Then it's possible he's also asleep, right?

Cynthia: Yes indeed. Falling deeper into the nightmare may be allowing him to forge a deeper bond with Darkrai. Cyrus could be in that nightmare, resonating with Darkrai... All while strengthening their bond.

Dawn: Unbelievable! But we know what eventually happens to those who fall into Darkrai’s nightmare...

Barry: Yikes! We have to find him—quick!

Lucas: We don't have enough info on his whereabouts... What should we do?

???: Why don't you let us in on this operation?

(Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn appear)

Barry: Team Galactic!

Saturn: We'd also like to find our boss.

Mars: Don't get the wrong idea. We're only helping you because your goals happen to align with ours.

Barry: After all the bad things you've done, you're really willing to help us out?

Jupiter: We're not playing around. We'll do anything to get our boss back.

Dawn: ... ... ... OK. I believe you.

Lucas: What?! Really, Dawn? You sure we should team up with Team Galactic?

Dawn: Uh-huh. Everyone worries about the people they care about. It has nothing to do with good or evil.

Cynthia: I'm with you, Dawn. We'll need their help if we want Cyrus to change. I believe that you all care deeply for Cyrus.

Saturn: Thank you. You have our full cooperation.

Cynthia: However, you need to follow our rules. No straying from the group. You'll stay with at least one of us while we're out and about.

Mars: Hmph. So you wanna babysit us, huh? Go right ahead.

Professor Bellis: Urgh...

Barry: Professor?!

Professor Bellis: I'm suddenly feeling...a little...sleepy...

Lucas: You can't go to sleep, Professor! You'll fall right into Darkrai’s nightmare!

Professor Bellis: Sorry... Can't...stay awake... I know...you can do it... I...believe... ... ... ...

Dawn: Professor Bellis...

Cynthia: Let's go. We have to find Cyrus—for the professor's sake, too!

(Transition to Barry and Jupiter at the glaciers)

Jupiter: Ugh...it's so cold, even Skuntank's tail is frozen upside down!

Barry: Wasn't its tail like that already? Don't just make things up! Jupiter: Sheesh, I was just trying to be nice and make some conversation. Why'd I have to partner up with you, anyway? Putting us together... It's like they're asking for a fight to happen.

Barry: What, you wanna battle?!

Jupiter: Of course not. Master Cyrus comes first right now. Also...even if we did battle, I'm not sure I'd be able to beat you again. I can tell you've gotten stronger.

Barry: Oh... Well, that's nice of you to say. Y'know, after I lost to you... I had this feeling that I had to get stronger. But it wasn't because I was worried about winning or losing. You know what I mean? You get it, right? Since you're the same. After all, you're fighting really hard for someone you believe in now. When you put things on the line for someone else and not just yourself, that's what makes you super strong.

Jupiter: Is that so? Then let's hurry up and find Master Cyrus. After that, we can have a rematch to see which of us has gotten stronger.

Barry: Yeah! Totally!

Intertwined Pasts

(Lucas and Mars at the ruins)

Lucas: It's pretty weird, working together with someone from Team Galactic.

Mars: Hmph. Right back at ya, kid. You've got some nerve— Oh, never mind. We're cooperating now.

Lucas: You must really care about Cyrus, huh?

Mars: Oh, shut it. It's none of your business! Of course I care. We're only teaming up with you so we can find him. Once we're done with this, I'd be happy to take you down a few notches like before.

Lucas: Like before? You mean that time we battled at Lake Verity? I'll definitely win this time!

Mars: Hmph. Like I'd lose to a goody-goody couple like you and that little friend of yours.

Lucas: Wh-what? Dawn and I aren't a couple! I mean...I know I rely on her a lot... Too much, really... But that's why I want to win even when she's not here! Because then I can be proud that I won on my own!

Mars: Oh? So you're a couple, but it's a little complicated, huh.

Lucas: I-I just said, we're not a couple!

Mars: Whatever. Either way, let's have another battle once we've found Master Cyrus. I'll show you again just how amazing Team Galactic can be!

(Transition to Dawn and Saturn in the forest)

Dawn: Hm... Where should we start looking?

(Saturn sends out his Toxicroak)

Dawn: What are you doing?

Saturn: You're able to stay calm, even when I'm about to betray you?

Dawn: Betray me? Are you sure about that? I didn't sense any ill will from you or your Toxicroak.

Saturn: Hmph. So that's what you think? I'll admit, we weren't actually harboring any ill will toward you. I simply wanted to battle you.

Dawn: Why?

Saturn: Because when we fought back in Sinnoh, I couldn't defeat you. In terms of skill, you may be on par with our boss. Perhaps it's my curiosity as a Trainer that makes me wonder what the secret to your power is. But what was I thinking, when our boss is facing a crisis?

Dawn: I don’t mind. Cyrus is important to you. I get that. But you have to take care of yourself just as much. You can't just keep pushing your own feelings aside for everyone else. Barry and Lucas are my precious friends... But I think it's great that we can tell each other what we want to do, even if it's a little selfish or it leads to an argument. If you don't do that, you can't let your friends know when they're doing something wrong.

Saturn: Master Cyrus...doing something wrong?

Dawn: Because...a lot can happen in life, you know? And I'd be more than happy to share my secret to getting stronger!

Saturn: What?

Dawn: After all, we're on Pasio—a place where sync pairs are free to battle and form as many connections with others as they want! Got it?

Saturn: Hmph. Yeah, I think so. Very well. Once we've successfully extricated Master Cyrus from this mess, I'll have you tell me everything about your little secret.

(Dawn and Saturn find a sleeping Team Galactic grunt)

Dawn: Oh! Look at that!

The Time of Awakening

(Professor Bellis's Lab)

Team Galactic Grunt: Zzzzz! Zzzzz! Zzzzz...

Cynthia: What's up with this grunt?

Dawn: We found him sleeping right in the middle of the road, so we brought him back with us...

Team Galactic Grunt: ZZZZZ! ZZZZZ!

Mars: Snoring so loud... He's enjoying his little nap, isn't he.

Lucas: Huh... Enjoying?

Hey! This grunt doesn't seem to be having any nightmares!

Dawn: What?!

Saturn: Sheesh. I can't believe he's sleeping on the job. Wake up, you!

(Saturn hits the grunt)

Team Galactic Grunt: Urgh. Morning already? I'd like a cup of Tapu Cocoa, please...

Saturn: H-how dare you show such laziness!

Jupiter: Where is your pride as a member of Team Galactic?

Team Galactic Grunt: Huh? Oh, you people... Ah! Whoops!

(Looker removes his disguise)

Dawn: Looker?!

Looker: In the flesh! I was wearing a Team Galactic disguise, but that was just a means to snoop around! My code name, it is Looker! I'm a middle-aged looker, so to speak, working for the International Police!

Cynthia: Why were you dressed like Team Galactic?

Looker: I was looking for Cyrus! All these members of Team Galactic are operating without a boss to keep them in line, so I was gathering all sorts of information from them! And, by piecing together all those vague bits of information, I've figured out where he is!

Saturn: What?! Tell us what you know, immediately!

Looker: OK, listen up...

(Transition to the cave)

Dawn: According to Looker, Cyrus should be in this cave.

Barry: Yeah. But Looker must've been tired, because he went right back to sleep after telling us!

Cynthia: From here on out, it's up to us. I'm counting on you, too, Sophocles.

Sophocles: Sure! I know we can get Cyrus to understand us if we can talk to him!

(Darkrai appears)

Jupiter: Darkrai?! That must mean Cyrus really is here!

Barry: Uh-oh... I'm getting kinda...sleepy...

Lucas: Oh no! We got too close to Darkrai! N-no... I can't...keep my eyes open... Dawn...hurry... Use Cresselia's power...

Dawn: No, let's go into the nightmare!

Sophocles: What?!

Dawn: If Cyrus is already in Darkrai's nightmare... then I think we have to go to sleep, too.

Cynthia: I see. Let's go for it, then.

Mars: Bring it on! We'll do it for Master Cyrus!

Sophocles: Y-yeah! I can do it, too!

Dawn: I'll see you soon...in our dreams...

(Transition to inside the nightmare)

Dawn: It's so dark...and cold... Is this Darkrai's nightmare? The one Cyrus is experiencing? I feel like I've lost something precious to me... If I knew I'd feel like this, I never would've come here...

(Cresselia appears)

Dawn: Cresselia! You found me! Thanks. I'm not lonely anymore. I know I have friends who care about me! Come on! Let's find Cyrus!

(Cyrus appears)

Dawn: There he is! Hey! You have to wake up! Everyone's waiting for you!

(Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn appear)

Mars: Master Cyrus! Please, wake up!

Jupiter: Without you, we...we...

Saturn: Your ideals—your new galaxy! I'm sure this isn't what you wanted!

(Barry, Cynthia, Lucas, and Sophocles appear)

Sophocles: I wanna talk with you more, Cyrus! Maybe we won't be able to understand everything about each other... But how will we know if we haven't even tried yet?!

Cynthia: Cyrus, are you listening? There are people here who need you! Stop running away into these nightmares, and open your eyes!

A Mission to Complete

(The group wakes up in the cave)

Cynthia: Ngh... Where are we?

Barry: Hey, we're back! Sheesh, that place was so boring, I don't think I could stand another second of it!

???: You dare to meddle in my affairs?

(Cyrus appears)

Sophocles: Cyrus!

Saturn: Boss!

Jupiter: You're awake! Thank goodness—

Cyrus: Silence. Why doesn't anyone understand my ideals?

Cynthia: How could we? That chilling, dark place? How could anyone like a world so vast yet suffocating?

Cyrus: I suppose we'll never see eye to eye.

(Cyrus sends out Darkrai and Palkia, Cynthia sends out Giratina, Dawn sends out Cresselia, Lucas sends out Dialga)

Cyrus: Dialga.

Lucas: Yeah! Dialga's my precious partner Pokémon!

Cyrus: Connections and bonds between hearts end here. I'll eliminate them all!

(Cynthia, Dawn, and Lucas battle and defeat Cyrus)

Cyrus: Why?! How could I lose yet again?!

Lucas: Because I can rely on my friend, Dialga!

Cyrus: Your...friend?

Dawn: We were able to get out of that nightmare thanks to the connections that bring us together! There are people who need us... Who are waiting for us! We can't stay cooped up and asleep in a nightmare like that forever! I know you feel the same!

Cyrus: You are unstable, incomplete beings... You're nothing but pawns.

Jupiter: Yes, sir. That's true. But that doesn't give us a reason to leave your side!

Cyrus: What?

Mars: For you, we will do anything...even if it means we're just pawns or tools for you to use!

Saturn: It's true that we didn't understand your real ambitions. But that's OK because we trust you! We believe in you and the new world you strive to create! If we lose our feelings...our loyalty to you... then we won't be able to stay by your side and help you do that!

Mars: Please, sir! Reconsider!

Cynthia: You're not wrong when you say human spirit is incomplete. And yes, being incomplete means we experience feelings like hurt and pain. But the reason why you feel hurt is because you have something precious to you. Perhaps even a Pokémon that you've forged a bond with a while back.

Cyrus: ... ... ... Connections between hearts... These bonds you speak of... I admit they can prove to be useful. However, you remain unaware of the tragic events that unfold because of them. I will find another way—a way in which we can avoid that suffering. Perhaps completing the human spirit is one way to accomplish that. With a complete spirit, there would be no tragedy and no mistakes.

Sophocles: Cyrus!

Cyrus: Saturn. Jupiter. Mars. As before, you are still nothing more than pawns and tools to accomplish what I need. If you're fine with that, you may come with me.

Saturn: Yes, sir!

Cyrus: I’ll be on my way. And you, boy from Sinnoh... Take care of Dialga.

(Cyrus, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn disappear)

(Transition to Giovanni)

???: Hm... Loyal subordinates?

(Transition to Professor Bellis's Lab)

Professor Bellis: Merci! Everyone on Pasio is awake now, thanks to you!

Barry: Awesome! I'm glad everyone's OK!

Dawn: I hope it's because Cyrus has begun to understand how important feelings are.

Lucas: Yeah. He even seemed concerned about Dialga a bit, in the end! He's gonna change—I'm sure of it!

Cynthia: I felt an immeasurable amount of despair from him in Darkrai’s nightmare... But despite that, he's trying to take a step in the right direction. It's because he has people he cares about.

Professor Bellis: Seems we should keep an eye on him, just in case. That said, you all did a marvelous job!

Dawn: Thanks! I hope I can have another battle with Team Galactic someday... Not as enemies, but as rivals!

Sync Pair Story - A Day with Sygna Suit Cyrus

Cyrus: Wait, Darkrai.

Cyrus: I didn't expect to see a child walking around here so late at night.

Player: Uh...I was, like, you know.../I was out exploring.

Cyrus: You don't need to explain yourself. It's none of my concern.

Cyrus: Walk around wherever you want at night, but don't get too close to Darkrai. If you do, you'll have nightmares.

Cyrus: To protect itself, Darkrai afflicts those around it with nightmares and chases them away. It actually doesn't cause these nightmares intentionally. The response is instinctive.

Cyrus: Darkrai pushes others away and lives a solitary life as a result.

Player: But you're together with it...:

Cyrus:That's easy to explain.

Player: Oh, really?

Cyrus:I don't think there's anyone but me who could be Darkrai's partner.

Cyrus: My spirit is not so weak that I would be terrified by nightmares. The world of darkness that Darkrai shows me—devoid of joy or despair—doesn't feel like a nightmare at all. If anything, I feel at ease there.

Cyrus: But people and Pokémon are far too scared of darkness. There aren't many who feel positively about Darkrai.

Player: I wouldn't say that...

Cyrus: You don't have to force yourself to say something positive.

Player: Is Darkrai lonely?

Cyrus: No, I don't think it has such feelings. After spending so much time alone, Darkrai no longer feels such things as sadness or loneliness.

Cyrus: If you sympathize with Darkrai and would like to spend time with it... you have to be prepared to enter a world of pure darkness.

Cyrus: If you can accept a world of nothingness, then you can truly understand Darkrai's spirit. That's what it means to be together with Darkrai.

Player: If that's what it'll takes to be friends...

Cyrus: So you're not afraid of nightmares? You've got the kind of spirit that lets you endure fear it's for the sake of Pokémon.

Player: That's kinda scary...

Cyrus: I’d say that's a normal reaction. With an incomplete spirit, it would be very difficult to endure a world of loneliness.

Cyrus: If you really understand what it means to be near Darkrai and its nightmares, and you want to get to know it better... then come to me anytime. I'll show you a truly beautiful world.

Updating the Pokémon Center

Exciting Ideas

(Pokémon Center; Sophocles and Penny stand in front of Tricia's counter)

One day, Trista asked Sophocles and Penny to upgrade a machine in the Pokémon Center.

Sophocles: So, we need to add user-friendly functions for people to use while they're waiting... I'm gonna use ALL the knowledge I gained from my inventions to come up with great ideas!

Penny: Hmmm...so, what functions should we add? Maybe we could implement a feature where people can view info about other Trainers or Pokémon?

Sophocles: Hey, that's a great idea! We could even make it a bit like a Pokédex and add something like...

(Transition to Penny and Sophocles standing in front of the machine)

Sophocles: Hmm... This is really hard...

Penny: I'm totally blanking on a UI that'd vibe well with a Pokémon Center...

???: Oh, looks like you might need some help, Penny.

(Jacq appears)

Penny: Oh! Hi there, Mr. Jacq.

Jacq: Hello, hello!

Sophocles: H-hello!

Penny: Could we get your advice on something, Mr. Jacq?

Jacq: Sure, how can I help?

(Penny talks to Jacq)

Jacq: Mm-hmm, that's a great idea! If you go with that design, the machine would be accessible to everyone!

Penny: Thank you, Mr. Jacq. You were a big help!

Jacq: Nah, I didn't do anything special! It's your hard work that sparked this great idea. Well then, good luck you two!

(Jacq leaves)

Sophocles: Now, all we need to do is upgrade the hardware to accommodate the new features...

Penny: I really want this to work...especially since it's something we came up with together.

(Fade to black)

Sophocles: Hmm...mmm... (Fade back to the Pokémon Center; Penny and Sophocles are downhearted)

Sophocles: This is a lot harder than I thought it'd be...

???: What is the matter, boy?

(Penny and Sophocles turn around and stare at the speaker in shock)

Incomplete Things?

(Cyrus approaches Penny and Sophocles)

Sophocles: Cyrus?!

Penny: Y-you know him?

Sophocles: Yeah, he knows a lot about machines and science for a guy his age..

Penny: That age being...what, exactly?

Cyrus: Are you tinkering with that machine?

Sophocles: Y-yes... But it's not working the way we want it to...

Cyrus: I see. Would you move aside, please?

Penny: Huh?! Sure! S-sorry...

(Transition to Cyrus standing in front of the machine)

Cyrus: Hm… To put it simply, your design is overcomplicated. To start, this component is wholly unnecessary. Simplification of the connection method is also recommended. It should function properly after these adjustments are made.

(There is a beeping sound as Cyrus adjusts the machine)

Penny: Oooh... Wow... It's working...

Sophocles: Ahhh... OK, I get it now…

Penny: We may have been overthinking it, huh?

Sophocles: Why are you helping us, anyway?

Cyrus: ...I simply cannot stand to see something incomplete.

(Cyrus walks away)

Sophocles: Thank you, Cyrus!

Penny: OK, now all that's left are the final touches! We...can do this!

Sophocles: Yeeeaaah!

Miscellaneous Quotes

We humans and Pokémon are incomplete. Because we are all so lacking, we fight, we maim... I hate the incompleteness. That we are all incomplete, I hate it with my entire body and being. The world should be complete. The world must change.

Tell me, [player]... What does friendship mean to you? Friendship is a vague, incomplete concept. We are better off abandoning such useless sentimentality. I cannot understand it.

We humans and Pokémon are incapable of understanding each other. If we did, all these ugly conflicts would never happen. It is because of emotions that, even in a place like Pasio, an organization like Team Break exists. An ugly group like that could not be further from perfection. I do not concern myself with those who act based on flawed, incomplete things like emotions. However, if you are embroiled in conflict with a group like Team Break, I will at least listen to what you have to say.

There is nothing more foolish than being compelled to act by feelings and emotions. I'm only working together with you because I determined that it would be in my best interests.

Time and space shape our world in an intertwining spiral. If either were to be destroyed, our world would quickly collapse. Our reality is a very fragile thing.

You and your partner Pokémon are connected to each other through your spirits. You're able to turn that into a tremendous power. I cannot understand that kind of power at all.

Although I'm dressed differently than usual, my attitude hasn't changed at all. As long as it's functional, I don't care at all what I wear.

No matter how long you and I work together, our philosophies will never be compatible. You think of your partner Pokémon as friends, while I see them as an extension of my power. These two mind-sets simply cannot be reconciled. Despite that, we can still have conversations like this—and even be of assistance to one another at times. Strange, isn't it?

To a person like you, a good dream is probably something delightful and fun. But not to me. I think what Darkrai shows me are good dreams... Eternal dreams of darkness. Dreams free of both joy and suffering, where there are no constraints or obligations... I see these dreams as something complete. “Good dreams” are an illusion. They disappear in an instant when you wake up, never to return. They are incomplete, fleeting things.

Unlike humans—who are unreliable—machines act according to logic, and their actions always bring about the same results. Machines aren't influenced by the uncertainties of spirit or emotions. Don't you think that's wonderful? The world is filled with ugly things, but I think machines alone are beautiful. If this world was made up only of machines... I think it would be close to the complete world that I envision.

Oh, it's you, [player]. I can feel your powerful spirit again today. Your spirit is something I lack—something I can't even comprehend... But perhaps in your case, it can be considered an asset.

Oh, it's you, [player]. If you and I are headed toward the same goal, I suppose I will lend you my strength.

Special log-in conversation (morning)

Vague and incomplete things like emotions and spirit waver and vanish, much like how fog fades in the morning sun.

Special log-in conversation (afternoon)

Pasio... To think that people could have built such an enormous island.

Special log-in conversation (evening)

sigh The silence of night is the closest thing there is to my perfect world.

Special log-in conversation (morning) (Sygna Suit)

Every morning when I wake up, it almost feels as if I'm on the border of dreams and reality.

Special log-in conversation (afternoon) (Sygna Suit)

When you're tired, it's advisable to get some rest. Overworking yourself is inefficient.

Special log-in conversation (evening) (Sygna Suit)

The light of day and the darkness of night are both incomplete... We must adapt to the time of day.

Early Draft of Cyrus

This was a leaked early version of Cyrus. The ending plot was very different. The origins aspect is curious and many aspects of it appear to have been carried over or implied in the final draft.

Cyrus, the Boss of the Galactic Team

Born as the eldest son into a wealthy family in the Sinnoh region.
Though both parents worked, he was given everything he wanted.
But his parents fought often —an ordinary occurrence.
He was expected to be perfect.
Cyrus hated the fact that he wasn't perfect, and over time, began to despise others as well (a perfectionist and reclusive).
Without communicating with his neglectful parents, he became immersed in scientific machinery, which he adored.
Lacking meaningful human connections, he eventually lost his emotions.
He was exceptionally intelligent.
However, his logical, precise way of thinking didn't attract people to him.
When Cyrus turned ten, he was mocked for the first time.
This unresolved anger and ambition set him on a path toward a mechanized, scientific world (a break from his reclusive nature).
At the same time, his anger led him to start using people to achieve his goals, fueling his desire for power to become a ruler of machines.
He began selling scientific equipment to raise funds for his ambitions.
Cyrus believed that when people die, they cease to exist-everything becomes nothing.
Since everything eventually returns to nothingness, he thought it didn't matter what one did; nothing would change.
To him, all living beings were merely cellular matter, with brains functioning through electrical signals. Emotions, therefore, were meaningless.
This reflected a complete denial of spirit, religion, and gods.
At 15, Cyrus formed an organization built on a meritocratic worldview, one where people were only tools to be used.
This marked the birth of the Galactic Team.

The Origins of His Ambition

As a child, Cyrus admired the vastness of the universe, the galaxy filled with dreams and hope.
At night, with a telescope in hand, he looked up at the countless stars in the sky, It made him feel good-secure.
He even dreamed of becoming an astronaut.
One day, he confessed this dream to his parents.
For the first and only time, they praised him. It became his only fond memorya smile shared by his family, the first and last happy memory.
Despite his hatred for his parents, that childhood fascination unconsciously led him to name his organization "Galactic."
Driven by ambition, Cyrus expanded the organization.
Fearing that others might understand his true intentions, he wore a mask to hide his emotions, using anger as his primary expression.
Few knew what lay behind the mask.
The leaders of the Galactic Team, each named after stars, were allowed to meet with him.
Currently, the team had three leaders:

  • Mars, a 22-year-old woman
  • Jupiter, a 24-year-old woman
  • Saturn, a 25-year-old man

These three were drawn to Cyrus's ideology and pledged their loyalty to him.
Cyrus called himself the "Man of the Sun, believing he could make the world revolve around him.
